June 2024 General Meeting
We are excited to invite you to an essential community meeting with Fire Chief Kristan Maurer. Since January 2020, Chief Maurer has been at the helm of our district, bringing her vast experience in fire safety and public administration to our community. As a dedicated member of the fire service since 1999 and Vice President of the Washington Fire Chiefs Association, Chief Maurer is deeply committed to our safety and well-being.
Meeting Highlights:
Upcoming Ballot Proposition: Chief Maurer will discuss the critical ballot proposition to restore our property tax levy to $1.50 per $1,000 of assessed valuation. This adjustment is vital to maintaining our fire and emergency services in the face of growing demands and inflation.
Impact on Our Community: Clark County Fire District 6 serves 75,000 residents over 37 square miles, including Hazel Dell, Salmon Creek, Felida, Mt. Vista, the Fairgrounds, and Lakeshore. Just like other industries and households, our fire district faces the pressures of growth and inflation. We need more revenue than the one percent annual increase allowed by law to keep up with call volumes and service costs.
Why the Levy Matters: The proposed lid lift, last approved in 2020, funded significant improvements in staffing and community insurance ratings, reducing premiums for many. The new levy will ensure we can hire additional personnel, enhance firefighter training, expand facilities, and replace aging equipment to meet rising demands.
