The Clark Regional Wastewater District (District) recently completed the nearly $2 million sewer replacement project along Highway 99 on-time and on-budget. The project included installation of approximately 3,400 lineal feet of new gravity trunk sewer in Highway 99 between NE 63rd Street and NE 78th Street. The new pipe replaces an existing aged sewer line that was installed in the late 1960s and serves businesses along the east side of Highway 99. Funding for the project came from the District’s Restoration and Replacement account, which is generated through customer rates.
This project was an important re-investment in Hazel Dell and is part of the District’s proactive efforts to keep the sewer system operating safely and efficiently. “This investment will provide continued reliable and affordable service for the customers in Hazel Dell for another 50 plus years, while at the same time protecting public health and the environment,” said Robin Krause, District Engineer. “Completing a project of this scale on-time and on-budget is a credit to everyone involved.”
Many stakeholders and partners helped make this project successful. The District was in close coordination with Clark County Public Works throughout the project, especially in the area of traffic control, working together to minimize impacts as much as possible. The District also coordinated with Clark Public Utilities (Water) to replace a water service line concurrently with the sewer work. This coordination created cost efficiencies and eliminated future disruption for local businesses and the traveling public.
The District appreciates the patience and flexibility of area businesses, residents and the public throughout the duration of the project. Special thanks goes to Nutter Corporation for their careful work during construction and the project team for delivering a successful project, while minimizing impacts to area businesses and the traveling public. Project team members included Wallis Engineering, Civil engineer, GRI, Geotechnical engineer, CH2M, construction management, and JLA Public Involvement.
