Construction of nearly $5 Million in sewer projects has been completed on-budget and on-schedule according to Heath Henderson, District Engineer for Clark Regional Wastewater District (District). Two key projects, one in Ridgefield and one in Vancouver, were needed to support educational developments in the area and to provide greater access to sewer for future economic development. Both projects were constructed by Tapani Inc. of Battle Ground, Washington. Funding for the projects came from System Development Charge revenue, which is collected from fees paid by new development.

In January 2019 the District awarded a $2.4 Million contract for construction of the Ridgefield North Junction Sewer project. “The project was completed ahead of schedule and on-budget,” said Mr. Henderson. This project extended sewer across and along both sides of I-5, north of the Ridgefield Junction. As a result, sewer service is now available to the future home of Clark College at Boschma Farms and other developments in the area; an area which the City of Ridgefield has planned for employment-based development and job creation.

In March 2019 the District awarded a $2.5 Million contract for construction of the NE 50th Avenue Sewer project. “The project was completed on-schedule and on-budget,” said Mr. Henderson. Construction of the sanitary sewer improvements has provided service to Vancouver iTech Preparatory School, along with 60 acres of the WSU Vancouver campus. Off campus, the project makes it feasible for service to be extended to more than 500 acres of land in the NE 50th Avenue corridor.

The District would like to thank the many partners that have helped to make these projects a success, including Clark County, City of Ridgefield, Washington State University Vancouver, Port of Ridgefield, Vancouver School District and Bonneville Power Administration. “Support from our partners was critical to the cost-effective and timely delivery of these projects,” said Mr. Henderson.
